The Self-Image Formed by Age 7 – Backed by Science

🧠 Two Levels of Consciousness:

Conscious Mind (5–10%)This is the logical, analytical part of your mind that processes language, calculation, planning, and decision-making. It can only handle about 40 bits of information per second and focuses on the present moment, not the past or subconscious patterns.

Subconscious Mind (90–95%)This is the massive information-processing system working in the background. It stores past experiences, emotions, beliefs, values, and automatic responses. It influences 90–95% of your behaviors and feelings—automatically.

🧠 Features of the Subconscious Mind:

  • Processes around 40 million bits per second (1 million times more than the conscious mind)

  • Reacts more to emotion and interpretation than to facts

  • Controls autonomic functions (breathing, heartbeat, etc.)

  • Accepts repeated input as “truth”

  • Doesn’t judge or filter what it takes in

  • Prioritizes what’s familiar over what’s desired

  • Strong emotional experiences are stored deeply

👶 The Subconscious Is Wide Open Before Age 7

Children—especially under age 7—function primarily from their subconscious mind. They absorb everything around them—words, emotions, experiences—without logical filtering.

🌱 Childhood Traits from a Subconscious Perspective:

  • Children don’t yet have critical thinking skills

  • They accept what they’re told as absolute truth

  • The words and behaviors of adults become their core self-image

Examples:“Be quiet.” → “I’m not supposed to speak up.”“Why can’t you do this?” → “I’m not good enough.”

Their subconscious is shaped by:

  • Repeated environments and emotional patterns

  • One-time experiences that carry strong emotional weight

🎓 How This Shows Up in Adults:

When adults feel…“I’m afraid of speaking in public” or “I don’t feel lovable,”…these often stem from early childhood programming.

A child constantly told “You’re no good” may internalize the belief,“I’m a failure.”Whereas a child raised with love and encouragement may subconsciously believe,“I am worthy of love and support.”

These are not conscious thoughts—they are deep, unquestioned beliefs.

💡 Summary:

The early years are when your subconscious mind is wide open, forming the blueprint for your thoughts, emotions, and behavior.During this time, we unconsciously absorb “survival strategies” like:“How can I be liked?” “How do I avoid being scolded?” “How can I fit in?”

This is how human behavior develops—whether you’re raised by humans or wolves.Yes, even wild animals adapt their sense of identity through nurture, not just genetics. The old Japanese saying, “The soul of a child is set by age 3”, is now supported by science.

And unless you access the subconscious mind directly, you cannot change what was planted there—no matter how hard you think about it.
