"The True Nature of Stress and the Opportunity to Rise”

Hello from New York City!\(^o^)/

Today, I’d like to talk about why life feels so exhausting, why there’s so much stress — and get to the root of it through the lens of psychology and quantum physics.

Since 2011 in Singapore and from 2013 in New York City, I’ve been working as a hypnotherapist. And here’s something I’ve come to truly believe:

Most stress comes from the ego and the desire to control.

🌱 What is the Ego?

Simply put, the ego is the image we hold of ourselves — our "identity" or "sense of self."“I’m this kind of person”“I want to be seen this way”“I have to be like this” —All of these fixed ideas, attachments, and defense mechanisms are expressions of the ego.

🧠 The Psychological Perspective (Freud’s Theory)

Freud, the father of psychoanalysis, described the mind as having three parts:

  • Id – primal urges and instincts (hunger, anger, sleep, etc.)

  • Ego – the "self" that negotiates between reality and those instincts

  • Superego – moral standards, ideals, and the voice of “should”

According to Freud, the ego is constantly trying to balance our desires, values, and external reality.

🔗 The Ego and Our Need for Control🔸 Why do we feel the urge to control things?Inside each of us is a set of expectations and inner stories:“This is how it should be”“This is how I want it to be”

When reality doesn’t match those expectations, we feel anxious, angry, or defeated. To fix that gap, we try to control the outside world — and that’s when the ego kicks in.

🧠 Examples of Control Behaviors Driven by Ego:(Adding a few examples in list form makes it easier to relate✨)

  • Constantly worrying about how others respond to you

  • Getting irritated when things don’t go according to plan

  • Needing to prove you're "right"

  • Expecting others to behave exactly the way you want

All of these are rooted in the ego’s desire to feel:“in control” and “safe.”

💥 The Stronger the Ego, the Greater the StressThat’s right. The more your ego says “I want this to go my way,”the more stress you’ll feel.

Because the more you try to fix the outside, the more it reflects a lack of inner fulfillment.

If your inner world is calm and whole, the outer world won’t shake you.And even if things do go your way through controlling behavior, the satisfaction is fleeting — soon replaced by the next unmet need.

📍 Here’s the core issue\(^^)/Trying to control the external world to feel satisfied…is fundamentally the wrong strategy! \(^^)/

I’ll be explaining why that is, through both psychology and quantum physics, in my next post.Stay tuned!\(^o^)/
