How to grow Your Intuition

I’ve shared some stories about synchronicity and the mysterious things that happened in my life.

For example, I somehow ended up living in New York after growing up in a small countryside town in Japan. I also adopted my little sister’s teenage children—an idea that, in fact, didn’t even come from me, but from my then-husband.

As I mentioned in a previous post, when I was 8 years old, I declared: “I’ll marry a Westerner, have boy-and-girl twins, and live abroad.” After having lots of laughters from people around me then, every part of that came true later, so much later.

And as I also shared before, there have been times when I somehow knew I would bump into a certain person—on a specific day, at a specific place—weeks in advance.

One time in December, years ago, I suddenly felt I would run into this person on New Year’s Eve at a Japanese supermarket in Manhattan, NY.  I don’t know why—I just had that feeling. It was as if the idea descended into me or emerged from within.

Going to that supermarket on New Year’s Eve wasn’t unusual. As a Japanese person, it’s where I go every year for soba noodles for New Year’s Eve and special food for New Year’s Day.  But of course, I hadn’t planned exactly what time I would go. I was going alone, just whenever I felt like it for grocery shopping.

On the day, I remember feeling a little nervous. I kept glancing around as I shopped, wondering, What if it actually happens? When I left the store and hadn’t seen him, I felt a sense of relief.

But just as I was heading toward the station, I suddenly felt like going to one more store. I turned around, took two or three steps—and that’s when the person came up from the basement of a nearby building.

And I thought, “Ah, I knew it...”

Because he was coming up from the basement, the timing had to be nearly perfect. Just a few seconds off and we wouldn’t have crossed paths.

Things like this have happened to me more than once. In those moments, I feel a kind of inner command—“Go this way.” Or “It’s there.” It’s as if something is guiding me. Very mysterious.

These intuitive moments started happening more frequently after I ran into hypnosis in 2011 and began transforming my life. I believe that when our minds are clear—free from mental blocks. limiting beliefs or just negativities—our intuition becomes sharper.

I truly began changing my life in 2011, but that’s a story for another time.
